Your hosts at South Lodge Guest House, artists Christa & Bill Hackney, are pleased to be involved in supporting this initiative. We will give you a warm and friendly welcome and help you enjoy your stay in our beautiful Victorian family home. South Lodge was built in 1866 and the building offers a generous sense of space and ease that Victorian architecture has achieved better than any other. We love living in Broadstairs and we are confident you will enjoy being in this wonderful old fashioned seaside town as well.

We started running South Lodge as a Bed & Breakfast in 2005 and we have worked hard to ensure you will receive high standards of comfort, hospitality and service in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.

From the reaction of our customers we know we offer something special that is appreciated. It was because of the nominations by our customer that we won the Pride In Thanet Award 2008 - Accommodation.

The breakfasts at South Lodge are a treat. They include fresh fruits; home made smoothies, bread, yogurt & jams; cereals, cheeses, meats and much more. A very special filling and healthy continental breakfast with a difference. Christa is an excellent cook.

Christa Hackney

Christa started painting after our four children had grown up. She spent a number of years attending Emily Balls classes in Sussex, who with John Skinner, (Emily's teacher), are inspirational. Visit Emily Ball's Web site and John Skinner's Web site.

Her main materials are canvas & wood with Hammerite paints, Oils and crylics in a contemporary style. The Isle of Thanet Coast, personal experience and emotions are the primary sources for her ideas. South Lodge is full of Christa's paintings.

Bill Hackney

Bill is a public and community artist who also creates his own sculptures from time to time. He is also Chair of Chesworth Arts Farm Studios. A new studio developed for established sculptors and dirty artists in Horsham, West Sussex. The studios opened in 2008 and we are now looking for professional artists to make use of the studios.

He believes passionately that everyone benefit's from using their creative talents, which we all have. The education system today throughout Europe and beyond has a tendency to restrict the time and opportunity for children to use their creative skills at school. This needs to change. We will all enjoy life more and make more of life if we use our creative skills and senses.
